Rugby Boss Suspended After Womens Team Scandal

Zimbabwe Rugby officials suspended Losson Mtongwiza from his role as president. The board also removed Regina Mwanandiwa, who headed the women's rugby committee. Both leaders faced accusations about how they treated female players at last month's Rugby Women Africa Division Cup tournament in Ivory Coast. Players on the Lady Sables team received just $150 for a week of national team duty. Officials made them give back all team gear, even their travel outfits.

A recording leaked showing Mtongwiza threatening lifetime bans against players who spoke publicly about their treatment. This audio spread quickly across social media platforms. The Sports Commission asked rugby officials to explain these issues right away. Rugby fans gathered outside the Commission offices, demanding that Mtongwiza leave his position. The board acted after these protests grew louder each day.
