Rural Pupils Go Crazy Over New K115m School Block

Old Mutual gave a new classroom building worth K115 million to Katete school in Rumphi. The school can teach all primary grades with these rooms instead of just grades one through six. Children used to walk far away for the upper classes, but can stay closer to home. Trust chairman Tawonga Manda said this marks their third school project across Malawi. They picked Katete after Care Malawi showed how students struggled with long walks.

The classroom block helps fill gaps in rural education facilities. Education director Fiddes Msowoya thanked the group but mentioned Rumphi still lacks enough schools. Many areas need similar help from companies like Old Mutual. The new building creates hope for both Katete students and other villages with similar problems. Old Mutual aims to build more learning spaces where children need them most. Rural families benefit most from these education investments.
