Russia Ditches Bologna for Uni Degree Overhaul

Russia plans to change how students attend college and university. Education Minister Valery Falkov says the government has finished writing new rules for schools. The changes will replace the current system with something completely different. Professional groups and business owners like the new plan. Regular people also seem happy about these updates.

The minister did not say when schools will start using the new system everywhere. Six colleges tried out the changes during 2023 to see how they worked. Students would earn basic degrees first and specialized degrees later. This replaces the bachelor and master degree programs that schools use right now. The old system came from Europe and other countries.

Russia started moving away from European education rules back during 2022. Officials decided the Bologna system did not work well for Russian students. The Ministry of Education and Science made this announcement that year. Schools have been preparing for these changes ever since that time. The new approach focuses more on practical skills and local needs.
