Ruto checks the road, almost done, traffic is still skeptical

A major highway upgrade is nearly complete, promising better links between Nairobi and Ethiopia. President William Ruto inspected the Kenol to Marua road project, reported as ninety-three percent finished. The work transforms eighty-four kilometers into a dual carriageway to handle heavy traffic and improve safety. This segment is part of the critical Great North Road corridor.

The upgraded road is built to last through various weather conditions. It includes several community amenities like a trauma center in Sagana and modern roadside markets. Improved local access roads, motorcycle sheds, and tree planting initiatives are also part of the package, aiming to support local economies and environmental sustainability.

This highway connects the capital to the agriculturally rich Mount Kenya region. Its completion will enhance the movement of goods and people across Central and Eastern Kenya. The project is also expected to strengthen regional trade links with neighboring Ethiopia.

The total project cost is financed by multiple partners. The African Development Bank Group covers a majority share of the funding. The Africa Growing Together Fund and the Kenyan government provide the remaining financial support.
