Ruto Promises Homes for Flood-Displaced Folks

President Ruto said flood victims will be the first to receive new Social Housing. He shared this news in Njiru last Friday. The government has kept lists of every person who lost their home in last year's bad floods. They know exactly who these people are and where they lived before.

They want to build 50,000 new homes in these areas. Building will begin after teams finish cleaning the river and adding a new sewer line. The Nairobi Rivers project aims to clean up the dirty water. Workers will remove garbage, install a 60-kilometer sewer pipe, make the river deeper, and build many new houses.

President Ruto visited many places in Nairobi over five days. He launched new projects and checked on others already running. These visits spread growth to all parts of Kenya, even remote areas. His team wants every region to benefit from the country's progress.

Kithure Kindiki, who moved from Interior Minister to Deputy President, shared numbers last May. He said 40,000 families - around 181,000 people - had moved away from the Nairobi, Mathare, and Ngong Rivers by choice. The government thanked citizens for helping with moves. Living near these rivers proved dangerous during the heavy rains.

The government gave each family Sh10,000 to help with rent elsewhere. Kindiki promised these families would have the first chance at social housing when ready. This approach balances safety with housing needs for those who moved.
