Mwambande Lends a Hand with Food for Flood Victims

In a critical humanitarian response, Karonga North Constituency's parliamentary representative has dispatched emergency food assistance to families devastated by the recent flooding in Kaporo. The significant donation includes 20 substantial maize sacks weighing 50 kilograms, representing a total value of K1.2 million for displaced households.

Local government official King Mvula communicated the legislator's compassionate intent, emphasizing support for families struggling to rebuild after catastrophic environmental destruction. Mvula, who also served as district council vice chairperson, pledged continued municipal commitment to sourcing additional relief resources through comprehensive disaster management protocols.

Flood victims gratefully acknowledged the representative's intervention while simultaneously articulating urgent supplementary needs. Survivors, including Dorin Nyirenda, Ireen Mwalwimba, and community representative Adam Chirwa, specifically requested additional support, such as mosquito nets and temporary shelter to mitigate ongoing health and safety vulnerabilities.

Detailed municipal assessments reveal extensive damage across the region, with 1,017 households experiencing direct flood impacts. Currently, 161 families have been relocated to temporary encampments after complete residential destruction, underscoring the critical nature of ongoing humanitarian assistance and community resilience efforts.
