Kenya's President William Ruto selected Feisal Abass for another three-year appointment as non-executive Chairperson of the Privatisation Commission. The official gazette notice published on Friday confirms that Abass will continue to lead the government body responsible for advising on state asset sales. His new term begins immediately and extends through July 2028. The commission guides Kenya's privatisation program under the 2005 Privatisation Act. Abass brings more than twenty years of leadership experience across the public and private sectors.
Abass earned his economics degree from the American University in Cairo and subsequently completed an MBA in Strategic Management at the University of Nairobi. He previously served on the boards of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company, Geothermal Development Company, and Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation. His work helped bring KenGen to the Nairobi Securities Exchange as a publicly traded company. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta first appointed Abass to this position in July 2022. President Ruto retained him when the commission became the Privatisation Authority.
