Kenya plans to finish a major road project in northern areas within two years. The government assigned seven builders to work on different parts of the 740-kilometer route from Isiolo to Mandera. Deputy President Kindiki said President Ruto invested heavily in long-neglected northern regions. He spoke at Rapsu, where 6200 homes will soon be connected to electricity. The Isiolo section is 28 percent complete, with the Kulamawe section reaching 38 percent.
Kindiki promised to check progress weekly to ensure timely completion. The Rapsu power project forms part of a larger Sh1.1 billion energy program throughout the county. Officials allocated Sh771 million for connecting homes directly to power lines. The Merti Solar project has reached 95 percent completion. Several small towns will receive full electricity service within weeks.
Kindiki handed over Sh56.7 million to families affected by past wildlife problems. The money addresses claims dating back ten years that previous leaders had ignored. The government will help local farmers expand irrigation systems and receive a cooling unit for fresh produce. Farmers can also expect better seeds at lower prices to grow more food.
