Ruto's SHA project decrees free care, threatens fraudsters

President William Ruto directed Kenyan public health facilities to stop billing citizens registered under the Social Health Authority program. Medical institutions must submit claims directly to SHA rather than demanding payment from patients for covered services and medications. Ruto launched the National Equipment Service Project during ceremonies at State House, Nairobi, replacing the outdated Medical Equipment Scheme with modern infrastructure upgrades. Private sector partners will handle installation, maintenance, and servicing costs through a Fee-for-Service arrangement that eliminates government financial burdens. The initiative has already provided over 60,000 medical procedures across 29 facilities since June 2025, with additional CT scanners, ultrasound machines, and dialysis equipment scheduled for deployment throughout the next two months.
