Ruwa on track for town status, says Minister Tawengwa

Minister Charles Tawengwa visited Ruwa Local Board yesterday to assess infrastructure development progress. The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan toured multiple community projects with Permanent Secretary Cosmas Chiringa and government officials. Tawengwa expressed satisfaction with local resource utilization for schools, markets, and essential services throughout the area. He observed one school successfully raising over 100 pigs through collective community efforts while others constructed educational facilities. The minister challenged local leaders to accelerate development work and achieve municipal status by late 2026.

Project inspections covered Better Days Market in Runyararo, Ruwa New Town House, Runyararo Primary School, and Damofalls Poly Clinic. Tawengwa highlighted construction of a new market accommodating 30 traders with overnight storage facilities to reduce vendor conflicts with municipal authorities. Mayor Michael Mataruka confirmed the board's commitment to securing town status by 2026. Local officials completed necessary paperwork and await government confirmation for the municipal upgrade. Accelerated approval could potentially grant town status during early 2026.
