Sabah Assemblymen Vow to Prove Innocence in Corruption Case

Two politicians from Sabah walked out of court saying they did nothing wrong. Yusof Yacob and Andi Suryady Bandy faced judges who read corruption charges against them. The men said courts will prove their innocence when trials begin. They posted bail money and left the courthouse with their lawyers. Both assemblymen promised to keep working for voters during legal battles.

Yusof runs the state investment company called Qhazanah Sabah. He represents Sindumin voters and denies taking 200,000 ringgit from businessman Albert Tei. The money was supposed to help mining companies obtain special permits. Andi works as an assistant minister for Tanjung Batu district. He says accusations about receiving 150,000 ringgit are completely false.

Albert Tei faces his own charges for allegedly paying both politicians. The businessman from Selangor wanted help getting mining licenses for two different companies. Court papers show the payments happened at hotels and private homes. All three men said they were innocent when judges read the charges. The case will return to court on August 5 for more legal preparations.

Malaysian law makes bribery a serious crime with harsh punishments. Anyone found guilty could spend twenty years behind bars. Judges can also order huge fines that cost five times the bribe amount. The politicians say media coverage has hurt their reputations unfairly. They believe trials will clear their names and restore public trust.
