Police arrested former lawmaker Naimur Rahman Durjoy at his home Wednesday night. Officers raided his house during a special operation. Durjoy previously served as a member of parliament and worked as a Bangladesh Cricket Board director. The arrest happened at his residence located at Lalmatia area of the capital. Authorities took him to Manikganj Sadar Police Station after the raid.
The former politician will appear before a court on Thursday after police complete legal procedures. Additional Superintendent Imtiaj Mahbub from Manikganj District Police confirmed the arrest. Multiple criminal cases have been filed against Durjoy at two police stations. The charges come from Sadar and Daulatpur police stations within Manikganj district. Courts have already moved against Durjoy's assets over corruption allegations. Judges ordered the seizure of his 2,523 square foot flat on January 21st. Authorities also grabbed his land and three vehicles under the court order. The legal system froze twelve bank accounts belonging to the accused man. All these actions stem from corruption charges filed against him.
