Sabah Sara aid frenzy as Labuan lags behind

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan reported that Sabah achieved a 98 percent redemption rate among its 1.2 million Sara Appreciation Aid recipients. Labuan recorded 65 percent participation from nearly 50,000 eligible residents. The minister rejected assertions that elderly citizens and rural communities struggled with MyKad access requirements. Rural states demonstrated the highest redemption rates nationwide, contradicting accessibility concerns.

The program provides one-time RM100 credits to Malaysian adults through their identification cards. Recipients can redeem benefits between Aug. 31 and Dec. 31 for essential items at participating retailers. Small businesses gained increased sales from enhanced consumer purchasing power. Participating retail locations expanded from 7,300 establishments to more than 8,100 outlets across Malaysia.
