The Home Ministry has encouraged Sabah residents with undocumented children resulting from unregistered marriages to apply for citizenship through constitutional provisions. Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that applications would be carefully processed by a special joint committee involving the Sabah government and his ministry.
He explained that applicants must register with the Chief Minister's Department and provide necessary confirmations, including from local village heads. The minister emphasized the importance of legally registering marriages to prevent children from facing difficulties with education and healthcare access. He expressed confidence that collaboration between the state and federal governments would effectively resolve these documentation issues.
