Sabrina Carpenter will star in and co-produce a new musical film adaptation of Alice In Wonderland for Universal Pictures, adding to her recent return to acting that includes an upcoming role in Seth Rogen's revival of The Muppet Show. Lorene Scafaria, director of the 2019 film Hustlers, will write and direct the project based on Lewis Carroll's 1865 novel, with Wicked producer Marc Platt also attached.
Reports indicate Carpenter initiated the project herself by pitching the adaptation concept to Universal before Scafaria joined the production. The former Disney Channel performer is simultaneously celebrating six Grammy Award nominations, including Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year for Manchild, while her album Man's Best Friend received nominations for Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.
