SADC air chiefs trade war games for warthog stew in Zambia

Eight Southern African Development Community nations completed Exercise Blue Lugwasho at Zambia's Livingstone Air Force Base. The biennial humanitarian training ran from September 8 through 25 with participation from Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and host nation Zambia. Air forces deployed 19 military aircraft during the multinational operation.

Zimbabwe Air Vice Marshal Biltim Chingono praised the regional cooperation demonstrated throughout the exercise. Participating countries will rotate hosting duties alphabetically with Zimbabwe scheduled to lead the 2027 event. Cultural exhibitions featured traditional displays from each member state alongside aerobatic demonstrations by Zambian forces. Defense officials awarded certificates to all participating air forces upon completion of the training program.
