Samsung and Palantir team up on 2nm chip gamble

Samsung Electronics teamed up with Palantir Technologies late last year, as reported by The Korea Economic Daily. Industry insiders said last week that the Korean giant's chip-making business struggled. We still don't know if Palantir's AI tools fixed any problems at Samsung's main factories, but reports say they started using this software right before Christmas. Korean media calls this partnership a big gamble that aims to improve the number of good chips they make from each batch.

Samsung seems ready to risk everything on its new 2-nanometer GAA chip technology. People inside the company talk about a special group with a tough double mission: They must finish the 2nm GAA process by the end of 2025 and complete the much-talked-about Exynos 2600 mobile chip. The news article mentions Samsung expanded its DS Division AI Center last December but doesn't clearly say if this is the special team everyone's talking about.

Samsung previously hesitated to share private information with outside businesses, but that stance has changed. More details came out about this shift in thinking. The AI Center handles all work with Palantir. This center combines two older groups - the DS Division Innovation Center and the SAIT AI Center. They create chip-specific AI tech, build better development software, set up AI systems, and manage factory equipment.

Industry watchers predicted in late February that progress on the 2nm GAA technology would continue without major issues. The fully upgraded S2 production line should start making chips by October-December 2025. This major technology will help Samsung compete against other chip makers like TSMC, who also race to create smaller, more powerful chips for phones and computers.
