Samsung Boss Snubs Apple 5G Chip Deal Fiasco

Apple launched the iPhone 16e with its first custom C1 5G modem after years of development work. The company spent billions creating the wireless chip because talks with Samsung failed completely. A Samsung executive named Jung Hyun Ho blocked the partnership deal from happening. He worried about helping Apple compete against Samsung phones. The decision cost Samsung major revenue opportunities.

Samsung already sells Apple display screens and memory chips for various products. The modem deal would have created another profitable business relationship between the companies. Jung Hyun Ho refused the partnership despite potential earnings for Samsung. His choice forced Apple to develop competing modem technology instead. Many consider him one of Samsung's worst executives because of this mistake.

Apple previously wanted Samsung modems but the Korean company could not make enough units quickly. The partnership problems gave Apple motivation to build independent wireless technology. Samsung likely regrets missing the chance to work with its biggest smartphone rival. Apple's current Qualcomm agreement ends during 2027. The new Apple modems will reduce Samsung's future business chances forever.
