Samsung charges $999 for an 8 TB SSD you can't afford

Samsung Electronics released its 9100 PRO solid-state drive with an unprecedented 8TB storage capacity priced at $999. The company manufactured two versions of this high-capacity model, one standard unit and another equipped with thermal management hardware. These drives utilize PCIe 5.0 technology to achieve sequential read speeds reaching 14,800 MB/s and write speeds up to 13,400 MB/s. Random performance delivers 2,200K IOPS for read operations and 2,600K IOPS for write tasks. The drives offer 99% faster performance compared to previous 990 PRO models.

The 8TB capacity accommodates approximately 80 popular computer games based on average file sizes of 90.6GB per title. Samsung designed the storage devices for compatibility with gaming consoles, laptops, and desktop computers. Power consumption decreased by 49% compared to earlier generations through advanced heat management systems. The heatsink variant carries a $1019 price tag and maintains PlayStation 5 compatibility despite its larger profile. Mid-September marks the availability date for both 8TB configurations through Samsung's website and authorized retailers.
