Samsung keeps Galaxy S26 selfies stuck in the past

Samsung will retain the 12-megapixel front camera across its Galaxy S26 lineup, according to a report from WinFuture journalist Roland Quandt on Friday. The company last upgraded its selfie camera hardware with the Galaxy S23 series and appears set to maintain this specification despite competitors making advances. Apple recently adopted a square selfie camera design for its devices, which enables users to capture landscape photos while holding their phones vertically.

Samsung could implement improvements through larger sensor sizes, enhanced lens systems, wider apertures, or better computational photography techniques rather than increasing megapixel counts. The Galaxy S26 models will compete against Apple's iPhone 17 series, and the Korean manufacturer may need to focus on alternative enhancements if it continues using the existing F/2.2 camera system. Experts note that actual hardware changes typically produce more significant improvements than software modifications alone.
