Samsung races to match Apple’s crease-free iPhone Fold

Samsung is reportedly developing a new passport-style foldable phone called the Wide Fold, targeting a launch in fall 2026. This design shift appears to be a direct response to Apple's anticipated crease-free iPhone Fold, which is also expected to feature a wider, 4:3 aspect ratio display.

According to industry sources, the Wide Fold will feature a 7.6-inch main screen paired with a 5.4-inch outer display. The 4:3 aspect ratio is intended to improve the user experience by reducing content cropping and providing a notebook-like feel when opened. Speculated internal hardware includes 25W wireless charging, which would be a record for Samsung phones, and the likely use of a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.

Samsung's move is seen as a strategic effort to counter Apple's entry into the foldable market, leveraging its years of experience in the category. The device is expected to debut at a future Galaxy Unpacked event. While Samsung may hold a pricing advantage, the mass appeal of this new form factor against Apple's offering remains to be seen.
