The Sandals Foundation provided medical equipment and supplies valued at $6 million to Bustamante Hospital for Children to support the treatment of critically ill pediatric patients relocated from facilities damaged by Hurricane Melissa. The contribution included a neonatal ventilator, infusion pump, blood gas analyzer, various monitoring devices, and additional medical instruments to expand capacity at Jamaica's sole specialist children's hospital.
Bustamante has accepted transfers from Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital, Black River Hospital, Cornwall Regional Hospital, and Falmouth Hospital, accommodating surgical cases, neonates, and subspecialty patients in cardiology and renal care. Chief Medical Officer Michelle-Ann Dawson acknowledged temporary family separations would create difficulties and indicated plans to assist parents through care packages and psychological services.
