Sankulleh Janko of Gambia claims inaugural ECOWAS radio prize

The ECOWAS Journalism Award ceremony took place on Friday in Bijilo, celebrating outstanding media professionals from across West Africa. Sankulleh Janko earned the radio reporter category recognition during this inaugural event. The Gambian journalist expressed deep appreciation for receiving this honor, stating the achievement would remain part of his professional legacy. He believes this recognition reflects positively on Gambian journalism as a whole. The award represents the first ECOWAS Excellence Award given in the radio reporting field.

Janko previously received multiple accolades for his journalistic excellence throughout his career. The Gambia Press Union named him Radio Journalist of the Year in 2018, while he also captured the Foreign Media Correspondent of the Year award that same period. He dominated the 2022 Migration Reporting Awards for West and Central Africa by securing first, second, and third place honors. The University of The Gambia graduate encouraged aspiring journalists to maintain focus and avoid pursuing recognition for personal glory. He emphasized that passionate dedication to quality reporting naturally produces meaningful results.
