Selangor police shakeup as Mohd Zaini takes over, and crime drops with huge drug busts

Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan will take charge of Selangor police operations starting tomorrow. The deputy chief steps up after Hussein Omar Khan received orders to head the national narcotics investigation unit on July 21. Police officials conducted the transition ceremony at state headquarters with the management department director overseeing proceedings. Hussein completed two years and five months leading the state force before his promotion.

The outgoing commander delivered impressive crime fighting results during his tenure. Officers reduced criminal activity by 12 percent last year while confiscating over 10 tonnes of illegal drugs valued at RM300 million. Police arrests doubled from 22,000 cases in 2023 to 40,000 cases in 2024. Commercial crime investigations handled more than 7,000 cases each year with financial losses exceeding RM500 million annually. Traffic enforcement officers issued over one million summonses yearly and collected more than RM125 million in fines.
