Seme Customs Generates N3.5 Billion in Revenue, Seizes Goods Worth N889 Million

Nigeria Customs Service collected 3.5 billion naira at its Seme border office from January through May. Controller Benedict Oramalugo shared these numbers during a visit from Zone A coordinator Charles Orbih. The command helped move 220,300 metric tons of goods worth 47 billion naira out of the country. Officers also stopped smugglers and seized items valued at 889 million naira. These seizures contained expired medicines, marijuana and dangerous mercury.

The border office faces serious problems that hurt daily operations. Power has been cut off for seven years straight. Roads remain in poor condition around the facility. Scanning machines do not work properly anymore. Criminals easily cross the porous border without detection.

Orbih praised the command for fixing buildings and improving sports facilities for workers. He noted that Zone A brought in almost 80 percent of all customs revenue during early 2025. The zone collected over 1 trillion naira for the government during the first three months. New computer systems help officers process paperwork faster than before. The service plans to open its own university soon.

Officers must maintain high standards as they serve the nation. Orbih told workers to stay professional and honest in all their duties. The customs service continues modernizing its methods to fight smuggling better. Leaders want to strengthen partnerships with other African countries. These changes should help Nigeria earn more money from border trade.
