Senne Lammens, unfazed by pressure, aims for United greatness

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens embraces the scrutiny that accompanies one of football's most demanding positions, dismissing concerns about the intense expectations at Old Trafford. The 23-year-old Belgian arrived from Royal Antwerp for 18.1 million pounds after just one full campaign at the senior level, yet he insists the magnitude of playing for such a prominent club excites rather than intimidates him.

Supporters gave Lammens a standing ovation during his debut against Sunderland on October 4 simply for making his first catch, reflecting the fanbase's frustration with previous options Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir. That match produced the club's initial clean sheet of the campaign and sparked chants comparing him to legendary Danish keeper Peter Schmeichel. While flattered, Lammens acknowledges he must prove far more before warranting such comparisons. His approach emphasizes directness over risky buildup play, trusting teammates in advanced positions while maintaining the composure that defenders Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt value.

The keeper admits early training struggles delayed his first start, but once given the opportunity, he secured the position. His long-term ambition involves establishing a lengthy career at the club and eventually joining conversations about historic United goalkeepers, including Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar and David de Gea.
