Seven chiefs promoted in Zomba, Malawi, under the Chakwera administration

Zomba district witnessed leadership advancement as the Ministry of Local Government elevated seven traditional leaders through the District Commissioner's office. Three Traditional Authorities received promotions to Senior Chief status, while three Sub-Traditional Authorities gained Traditional Authority positions. Group Village Head Kamwendo advanced to the Sub-Traditional Authority level during the ceremony. District Commissioner Reinghard Chavula emphasized the importance of lawful conduct and community service among the promoted leaders. She warned against corrupt practices that damage developmental progress.

Chiefs' Affairs Director Charles Makanga stressed collaboration between traditional leadership and government institutions. He urged leaders to maintain cultural heritage while promoting education and preventing child marriages. The newly elevated Traditional Authority Lamusi expressed gratitude to President Chakwera for the recognition. Chavula highlighted the need for fair local court systems to reduce community hardship. These promotions aim to strengthen traditional governance structures across the district.
