Sharfuddoula Saikat earns praise as Bangladesh's top cricket umpire on ICC elite panel

Bangladesh cricket umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat keeps making his country proud on cricket fields around the world. The official joined the top ICC Elite Panel back in March 2024 as the first person from Bangladesh to reach this level. Famous cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle recently praised Saikat during the England versus India Test match at Edgbaston. Bhogle called his umpiring work outstanding and excellent during the high-pressure game. Saikat has become the best performing cricket figure from Bangladesh right at this moment.

The umpire started his international career back in 2009 during a Bangladesh versus Zimbabwe match as a television official. He moved to field umpiring the next year and has worked 27 Test matches total since that time. His accuracy under the Decision Review System has impressed cricket experts everywhere. Out of 41 reviews since joining the elite group, only 10 decisions went against him. This means 75.6 percent of his calls stood firm when players challenged them.

Other top umpires like Chris Gaffaney have 82.1 percent success rates during the same period. Paul Reifel shows 80.3 percent accuracy and Richard Kettleborough has 75 percent correct calls. Saikat matches these experienced officials despite being new to elite cricket. His performance proves Bangladesh can produce world-class cricket officials even when the national team struggles. The umpire continues to raise his country's cricket reputation through precise decision making during important international matches.
