Shooting near Florida A&M injured 12, including six minors

Gunfire near Florida A&M University left at least 12 people hurt during homecoming, with six kids among them. The attack hit streets by Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee. FAMU had played the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff earlier.

Police think a dispute led to the gunfire. Chief Lawrence Revell said detectives had linked just two or three people to the clash. They see it as a one-off case, rather than part of a wider series of attacks.

One child was just 11, the youngest of those hurt. Police said bullets struck 11 victims, while one injured person may be a FAMU student. Early health reports put one person in critical shape, three badly hurt, and eight stable.

A later update brought some good news. Five patients had left medical care, while six still needed a hospital stay. One person was still fighting critical injuries. Yet police had made no arrests at the first briefing, and the search for those at fault was still active.

Here's another detail. Roughly 24 cops were close to the scene when the shots began. Teams rushed to two roads near the sports venue after calls came in.

The setting made the case even more grim. FAMU ranks among America's largest historically Black universities, and its homecoming is a major campus event. Students, staff, and past graduates all take part in the festivities.
