Shurugwi gold panners held in fatal beating

Eight individuals face arrest after authorities say gold panners in Shurugwi fatally tortured a man accused of theft through beatings and scalding. Francis Mazarire allegedly stole $2,800 from Tafadzwa Mashove before fleeing to Lalapanzi, where a 12-member group tracked him down and forced him to acknowledge giving $800 to his girlfriend.

Police report the suspects transported Mazarire back to Shurugwi and inflicted severe violence using logs before pouring boiling water on him throughout the night. The victim died while being taken to Shurugwi District Hospital around 3 a.m.

Midlands police spokesperson Emmanuel Mahoko identified the detained suspects as Tafadzwa Mashove, Simbarashe Maroora, Linos Muzanarwo, Passmore Hobo, Melusi Mataruse, Clain Mafa, Talent Manjuzu and Noah Musemwa, while additional suspects remain at large. Authorities urged citizens to contact law enforcement rather than pursue vigilante justice.
