Sifuna emerges as the opposition’s potential running mate pick

Kenya’s opposition chaos just crowned a new prince amidst wild internal stabbing. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna acts as the likely backup option for the United Opposition ticket since Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya chose to keep his county job. The loudmouth lawyer currently leads the Kenya Moja Alliance while steering the Orange Democratic Movement.

Enemies inside the camp almost engineered his downfall recently. Migori Senator Eddie Oketch filed a petition to sack the secretary general but withdrew it after Ida Odinga intervened. This drama kicked off because Sifuna accused colleagues like Junet Mohamed of stealing campaign funds meant for the late Raila Odinga.

He even apologized to Uhuru Kenyatta at a Lugari funeral for the theft accusations while calling his own party members fools. Junet fired back that Uhuru’s brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, actually managed the cash from a Westlands hub. Sifuna ignored the noise and declared his loyalty to the Wantam movement.

DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua hinted that the coalition could pick the senator or Fred Matiang’i to back Kalonzo Musyoka. Analysts think this move locks in the Western Kenya vote. Some critics like Samson Cherargei argue that the establishment is simply fattening the senator for a future political slaughter.

Tensions cooled when Sifuna visited Ida in Karen for a hug and advice. Oburu Oginga defended the younger leader as a principled voice despite the noise. Polls show his faction holding seventeen percent support, which positions him as a serious third force behind the ruling UDA.
