A family fight in Chimanimani got worse after a prophet declared a man guilty of bewitching his half-sister. Elisha Mutoriyondo appeared before Chief Saurombe’s court to answer allegations from Chipo Chandakabarirwa. She claims he used witchcraft to make her sick, pressuring her husband to finally pay the bride price.
Mutoriyondo completely denied the accusations. He said he only ever tried to help his sister get treatment from healers. Chandakabarirwa testified that her health failed after a visit from him in 2017, alleging he performed rituals with a knife. She described ongoing pain that doctors cannot explain.
The chief had sent them to a prophetic healer, who ruled that Mutoriyondo was responsible. He angrily rejected that finding, daring the prophet to make him sick instead. He then blamed their family’s problems on their late father’s own past rituals, not himself.
Chief Saurombe told both siblings to stop arguing and go back to the prophetess for healing together, warning Mutoriyondo not to ignore the court’s direction.
