SK Hynix Secures First HBM4 Supply for Nvidia Rubin

SK Hynix beat its rivals to become the first company supplying HBM4 memory modules to NVIDIA for testing new Rubin AI chips. The Korean memory maker started delivering small amounts of HBM4 to NVIDIA, putting it ahead of Samsung and Micron. This gives NVIDIA the parts needed to launch Rubin graphics cards during the fourth quarter of 2025. HBM4 represents a major advance because it combines memory and processing elements into one package for the first time. The new standard will play a key role in future computer markets.

Micron trails behind SK Hynix because the American company struggles with lower production success rates and factory allocation problems. Samsung has made progress with HBM4 but keeps its production results secret. AMD recently chose Samsung's HBM3E modules, which could help Samsung win NVIDIA orders later. NVIDIA plans to buy HBM4 from multiple suppliers rather than relying on just one company. This approach matches what NVIDIA did with earlier HBM3 memory.

The early HBM4 delivery confirms NVIDIA will meet its goal of releasing new products every six months. Customer testing should begin around September 2025 before the official launch. SK Hynix will likely capture a larger share of the high-speed memory market as NVIDIA's preferred supplier.
