Smeed powers Somerset to T20 Blast title at Edgbaston

Somerset secured their third T20 Blast championship by achieving the competition's highest successful run chase against Hampshire at Edgbaston. Will Smeed delivered an outstanding performance with 94 runs from 58 deliveries before departing during the 19th over with 18 runs still required. Sean Dickson contributed an unbeaten 33 after surviving an early chance, while captain Lewis Gregory sealed victory with two decisive sixes. Somerset reached 195-4 to surpass Hampshire's total of 194-6. Toby Albert led Hampshire's batting effort with 85 runs from 48 balls, becoming the tournament's leading scorer this season.

Hampshire sought their fourth Blast title but fell short despite a competitive performance. Somerset joins Hampshire and Leicestershire with three championships following previous victories in 2005 and 2023. The match featured exceptional hitting conditions under lights, with evening dew affecting play. Hampshire retains hopes for silverware this season when they face Worcestershire in the One-Day Cup final at Trent Bridge.
