Sneaky Robots Slither Inside Pipes to Shield Homes from Winter

Robots check heating pipes across St. Petersburg before winter arrives. The machines help workers from two major companies find problems without digging up streets. JSC TEK SPb and JSC Teploset Sankt-Peterburga use these robotic systems to examine metal pipes from inside.

The robots measure how thick the metal remains after years of use. They spot rust damage and corrosion that could cause pipe failures. Workers can see pipe conditions clearly without expensive excavation projects that disrupt city traffic.

City officials plan to inspect 38 locations across 15 districts before heating season starts. The inspection zone covers 5,360 buildings throughout St. Petersburg. Nearly 3,750 homes will benefit from this robotic pipe inspection program.

Schools, hospitals and daycare centers also receive attention during these safety checks. Medical facilities total 143 buildings on the inspection list. Educational institutions add another 104 structures that need heating system evaluation.

The robotic technology saves money and reduces street construction mess for residents. Pipe inspections happen faster with these machines than traditional digging methods. City heating systems stay reliable when robots catch problems early before winter cold arrives.
