Son fears Suu Kyi could be dead, no word in years

Kim Aris is basically freaking out because he has no idea if his 80-year-old mom Aung San Suu Kyi is even alive anymore. The Myanmar junta has kept her locked up since they took over back in 2021, and he hasn't heard anything from her in years. She's got heart problems and other health issues, but nobody has been allowed to see her in over two years.

Her son is hoping the junta might cut her a break around their upcoming sham elections, maybe move her to house arrest or something. She's currently serving 27 years for charges she says are fake, and the last letter he got mentioned how brutal the temperatures were in her cell. He's trying to get countries like Japan to pressure the military during this election period.

The whole situation is extra messy because her reputation tanked after the Rohingya genocide stuff, so the international community doesn't care as much anymore. Aris insists she wasn't responsible for what happened, but it's made getting help way harder.
