Sonatura Audio debuts Superhet plugin for DAWs

Sonatura Audio has released Superhet, a plugin that applies heterodyning technology to digital audio workstations. The free software generates new frequencies by processing two input tones to create sum and difference pitches, eliminating the original signals.

The technique dates to 1901 when Reginald Fessenden developed it for radio transmission and reception. When a 440 Hz tone combines with a 643 Hz tone, the system produces 1,083 Hz and 203 Hz outputs. Users control the process through MIDI keyboards with adjustable waveforms, pitch envelopes, and ADSR amplitude parameters.

The plugin displays active pitches through a visualizer and supports parameter automation. Sonatura Audio distributes Superhet for free on macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
