Song Athletics partnered with Montreal sound designers BORO to produce Alchemia, a digital instrument library for Kontakt that merges acoustic recordings with electronic processing techniques. The collection blends string instruments, wind sections and human voices alongside modular synthesizer patches and unconventional audio sources, all transformed through experimental signal chains.
Recording sessions took place at Hotel2Tango studio in Montreal, where engineers captured performances on magnetic tape using vintage microphones. Electronic sources such as synthesizers and electric guitars received additional treatment by routing their signals through tube amplifiers, a concert grand piano's resonant body, and various metallic percussion objects. Both analog equipment and computer-based processors shaped the final sounds through tape machines, guitar effect pedals, and digital signal manipulation.
Users control the balance between untreated and heavily processed audio through a single main slider, allowing smooth transitions between natural and transformed textures. The library contains 62 different sound categories spanning strings, woodwinds, vocals and electronic elements, totaling approximately 27.5 gigabytes when extracted. The software operates through Kontakt version eight or the no-cost Kontakt Player on Windows 10 computers and Macs with macOS 13 systems. The product sells for 75 British pounds with tax.
