Songwe police vow calm before polls

Songwe's police chief pledged safe conditions for Wednesday's vote after weekend patrols through Tunduma found calm across the border region. Senior Assistant Commissioner Augustino Senga said security forces stand ready to protect residents and property as Tanzania conducts multiparty elections that began in 1995 without major violence.

Officers were instructed to vote at their assigned stations while serving as peace advocates for nervous citizens. The commander emphasized that national unity and solidarity will preserve order through ballot counting and beyond.

Senga told personnel to remain alert to threats while educating communities on resolving political disagreements peacefully. All residents share responsibility for maintaining stability as the country selects new leadership on Wednesday.
