Sonko Breaks Down at JKIA Over Sharjah Fire Victim

Mike Sonko led a sad airport gathering Monday morning as Benjamin Kioko Ndunda came home. His body arrived first among three Kenyans who died in a Sharjah fire. After brief prayers at JKIA, the remains went to Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home.

Ian Mungai, Kennedy Wangari, and Kioko died when flames tore through their UAE apartment building days ago. The second body reaches Kenya on Tuesday, and the last one on Wednesday. Kioko will rest on Friday, May 9, Sonko said as he comforted the grieving family.

Sonko thanked everyone who helped bring the men home - Aviation PS Terry Mbaika, KQ boss Allan Kilavuka, Kenyan officials in the UAE, and the Sharjah funeral team. All three victims had moved abroad seeking better jobs, like many Kenyans. Their deaths caused widespread grief across Kenya.

The tragedy sparked fresh talks about keeping overseas workers safe. Each man's remains will travel to his hometown for final ceremonies with loved ones.
