Sony Music Publishing Nashville buys Big Yellow Dog catalog

Sony just swallowed another major indie publisher in a big Nashville move. The company acquired Big Yellow Dog Music, gaining its catalog of hit songs. This includes publishing rights to tracks from Meghan Trainor, Maren Morris, and Kacey Musgraves. The deal also brings the publisher's active songwriter roster under Sony's administration.

The independent company was founded over two decades ago by two respected publishers. Its catalog achieved numerous chart-topping songs and industry awards across genres. One founder called the journey a once-in-a-lifetime experience full of worldwide hits. Both expressed confidence in Sony continuing their legacy with the catalog and writers.

Sony's Nashville CEO praised the founders for setting the bar for independent success. He noted their catalog contains career-defining songs performed consistently for years. The acquisition represents a significant expansion of Sony's publishing holdings in the country music center. The company plans to pursue future recordings from the existing catalog and new works from its writers.
