South African woman arrested for drug smuggling in Namibia

A South African woman faces court proceedings following her detention at the Ariamsvlei border post in connection with a drug smuggling operation valued at over N$5 million. The 37-year-old suspect was apprehended after Namibia Revenue Agency officials detected suspicious materials concealed within her white mini truck's canopy during a routine scanner check. Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi confirmed that police recovered 1,993 mandrax tablets, 1.05 kilograms of cocaine, and 77 parcels of cannabis from the vehicle's structure.

The contraband was reportedly headed to Okahandja when authorities intercepted it. Law enforcement charged the woman under the Abuse of Dependence-Producing Substances and Rehabilitation Centres Act for dealing in prohibited drugs. She remains in police custody while investigations proceed.
