Special Olympics Bharat football team feted in Delhi after Gothia Cup triumph

Union Minister Raksha Nikhil Khadse honored the Special Olympics Bharat football team during a ceremony in New Delhi on Monday. The athletes successfully defended their Gothia Special Olympics Trophy title in Gothenburg, Sweden. The team defeated Poland with a 3-1 victory in the championship match. This triumph follows their previous 4-3 win against Denmark in 2024. The squad prepared through intensive training at Manav Rachna University from July 2 through 11.

The minister praised the players for demonstrating India's commitment to inclusive sports development. Saheer Muhammed led the scoring with seven goals while Ankush Kumar contributed three and Stalin Kumar added two more. The Gothia Cup represents the world's largest international youth football tournament. Dr. Mallika Nadda and other prominent officials attended the recognition event. The achievement supports Prime Minister Modi's vision for comprehensive national development through accessible athletics programs.
