Spotify rolls out real-time friend listening and Jam invites

Spotify creeps can finally stalk friends' music taste in real-time via DMs. The platform expanded its chat system, where users broadcast exactly what they play inside message threads. This opt-in setting reveals your current track or recent history to anyone you previously messaged.

Management claims nearly forty million people utilized the chat function since it dropped last year. You can toggle this tracking off in settings if you refuse to let contacts judge your guilty pleasures or questionable late-night vibes.

Developers also added a specific button to force friends into live sessions immediately. The Request to Jam tool lets you drag people into a shared listening room directly from the chat window to build on the group feature introduced back in 2023.

Daily usage of that group function apparently doubled over the last year. These changes are hitting iOS and Android devices currently and should reach everyone within weeks. Just remember that starting a session still requires someone to pay for Premium.

This move follows other recent tweaks like letting bots build playlists from text prompts or expanding song credits. They even partnered with TuneMyMusic recently to help users steal their libraries back from rival services without the usual headache.
