Sri Lanka Bat First as Bangladesh Give Debuts to Emon, Tanvir

Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka called heads and won the coin flip at R. Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday. His team decided to bat first against Bangladesh during the opening match of their three-game series. Both cricket squads wanted to find their rhythm before a busy schedule of limited-overs matches. The home team put together a strong batting order to challenge the visitors. Bangladesh would need to chase whatever total Sri Lanka managed to post on the scoreboard.

Bangladesh cricket selectors handed out two fresh caps to promising young players. Parvez Hossain Emon earned his first chance to represent his country at age 22. The left-handed opener had impressed coaches through solid performances across domestic tournaments. Tanvir Islam also received his debut opportunity as a left-arm spinner. The bowler stepped into the team when leg-spinner Rishad Hossain fell sick and missed the match.

Parvez opened the batting alongside Tanzid Hasan as Bangladesh searched for a reliable partnership at the top. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz led his team from the middle order position. Sri Lanka also gave Milan Ratnayake his first international appearance as a right-arm fast bowler. The hosts assembled a balanced eleven featuring three pace bowlers and quality spinners. Both new players became the 151st and 152nd cricketers to wear Bangladesh colors during one-day matches.
