Sri Lanka Cricket hired Julian Wood as batting coach on a one-year deal starting on Oct. 1 after the team failed to advance past the group stage at the 2025 Asia Cup. Wood developed the Power Hitting Program, and he applies biomechanics to strengthen players' ability to generate force at the plate. He worked with the England and Wales Cricket Board, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Middlesex, Punjab Kings, and Bangladesh before joining Sri Lanka Cricket.
The board appointed Dr. Rene Ferdinands as spin bowling coach on a two-year contract beginning on Sept. 30. Ferdinands earned a doctorate in biomechanics from the University of Waikato, and he directed programs at India's National Cricket Academy. Wood led a weeklong training camp with the Sri Lankan women's team earlier this year as the squad prepared for the World Cup.
