St. Petersburg mortgage trap doubles national pain

Moscow and St. Petersburg residents pay the highest mortgage premiums in Russia when financing residential properties. Banki.ru analysts calculated that buyers in Moscow overpay 8.5 million rubles, and St. Petersburg purchasers add 6.9 million rubles above principal amounts. The national average overpayment reaches 24.3 million rubles for existing homes, and 3.3 million rubles for new construction.

Borrowers in the Urals Federal District recorded the lowest excess payments at 1.6 million rubles over 8.1 years for new apartments. The optimal monthly mortgage payment across Russia stands at 76,500 rubles.
