Stanbic, French Embassy launch green business accelerator in Uganda

Stanbic Business Incubator Limited partnered with France's diplomatic mission in Uganda to introduce a program on Friday supporting 200 enterprises focused on environmental sustainability. The initiative will distribute resources valued at approximately 2.7 billion shillings over two years to businesses led by young entrepreneurs and women in sectors including clean energy, sustainable farming, eco-friendly transportation and waste processing.

Catherine Poran, who leads the incubator, emphasized that environmentally conscious business approaches reduce ecological harm while generating economic and social benefits. The French Embassy contributed 1.8 billion shillings while Stanbic Bank provided matching funds totaling 34.5 percent of the budget. Ambassador Virginie Leroy noted the collaboration expands on previous joint efforts that assisted 110 small operations in agricultural ecology and nature tourism.

The accelerator targets 120 businesses in Kampala's metropolitan zone and 80 enterprises in the Albertine region, offering training, financial access and market connections. Government representative Johnson Abitekaniza praised the partnership and confirmed official backing for green economic transformation through a specialized finance unit.
