Starlink lands in Bangladesh with Yunus' backing internet revolution

SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service began operations in Bangladesh on Friday following an official announcement at Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka. Government officials and company executives attended the launch event, which marked the culmination of months of regulatory approval processes. Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus provided direct support for the initiative, according to Special Assistant Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission granted the company a 10-year operating license after it completed trial operations.

Bangladeshi customers must purchase equipment packages costing 42,000 taka to access the satellite network. The company offers two monthly subscription options for users nationwide. Residential service costs 6,000 taka per month and delivers internet speeds of up to 300 megabits per second. A budget alternative priced at 4,200 taka provides slower connection speeds but maintains continuous access. Lauren Dreyer from Starlink praised Bangladesh's rapid implementation timeline during the announcement ceremony.
