Steam top sellers lean multiplayer, solo sneaks in

Steam's 2025 cash crowns are basically all multiplayer brawls. The platform's top twelve sellers for new games this year, listed without a specific order, feature heavy hitters like Battlefield 6, ARC Raiders, Hollow Knight Silksong, and Schedule I. Other major titles in that tier include Elden Ring: Nightreign, Borderlands 4, Sid Meier's Civilization VII, EA Sports FC 26, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dune: Awakening, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Looking at the broader top sellers, including older games, staples like Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, PUBG, Apex Legends, and Marvel Rivals still dominate nearly half the list.

The new release data shows a clear preference for multiplayer, with nine of the twelve top-selling new games being built around it. That trend did not completely overshadow solo play, as proven by the strong sales for purely single-player experiences like Hollow Knight Silksong, the Oblivion Remaster, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Some notable absences sparked discussion, particularly Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 failing to crack the top tier, landing behind rival shooters Battlefield 6 and Borderlands 4. The list also highlighted impressive launches for new intellectual property, with Embark Studio's ARC Raiders and the self-published indie title Schedule I being the only fresh franchises to make the cut against established series.

The final revenue rankings for the year will be clearer after the closing bell, with more precise data expected from analytics firms later. The current snapshot, however, reveals where player money went, showcasing the ongoing strength of live service models alongside enduring demand for premium solo campaigns.
